GERMANTOWN AREA PARKS

Germantown’s municipal parks (Alt Bauer Park, Dheinsville Historic Park, Fireman's Park, Haupt Strasse Park, Kinderberg Park, Little League Park, Schoen Laufen Park, Spassland Park, Weidenbach Park, Unnamed Park), and Homestead Hollow County Park, located in Germantown, mark the beginning of the outdoor recreational opportunities in the Germantown area. Hiking, biking, cross country skiing, softball, volleyball, sledding, soccer, horseshoes, ice skating, picnicking, fishing, ice fishing, boating, snowmobiling, swimming, golfing and a variety of other activities are available through the parks systems and throughout private facilities around the county.

From spring to fall, bicyclers enjoy the historic sights in the fresh air throughout Germantown’s suburban and rural countryside. Enjoyable rides include touring the historic "Silo Mile" in Germantown’s rural north or visiting the remaining buildings in any one of the 7 historic hamlet precursor communities that make up the modern village of today. Biking in the scenic Kettle Moraine countryside near Holy Hill is both a challenge and a delight due to the moraine, drumlin and esker hills and kettle valleys. From Germantown, hiking visitors are also only five miles from the Ice Age Trail, one of only seven designated National Scenic Trails in the United States.In the heart of Washington County’s Kettle Moraine, and only miles from Germantown is Pike Lake State Park. It offers camping, hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, boating and swimming opportunities. The park provides groomed cross country ski trails each winter and is open for ice fishing. The Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest lies a little further from Germantown, but also offers extensive hiking and campground facilities in northern Washington County.

 

 

 

ALT BAUER PARK is a 21-acre neighborhood park located in the south central portion of Germantown. Alt Bauer has large natural woodland and grassland areas. The park has an extensive trail system and modular playground equipment. It also provides basketball and tennis opportunities.

 

DHEINSVILLE HISTORIC PARK is a 9.5-acre park that includes several historic buildings located in the northwest part of Germantown at the crossroads of Fond du Lac Avenue, Holy Hill Road and Maple Road. The park is at the center of the historic Dheinsville Settlement and includes the historic Wolf Haus. The new Bast Bell Museum and welcome center inside a historic barn on the site opened on July 1, 2000. Recreational fields for soccer or baseball are planned.

FIREMAN'S PARK is a 17-acre community park located in the center of Germantown next to the Fire Department. The park has courts for tennis, sand volleyball and basketball, baseball and softball fields, play equipment, park shelter and permanent restrooms.

 

HAUPT STRASSE PARK is a 13-acre neighborhood park located near the center of Germantown along historic Main Street. The park has a lighted softball field with an electric scoreboard, courts for horseshoes, tennis and sand volleyball, play equipment and park shelter.

 

HOMESTEAD HOLLOW COUNTY PARK is located on 105-acres off of Freistadt Road in the west/central portion of the village. The park offers trails through woodlands, prairies and marshy areas. Along with four shelter areas and one heated shelter available for reservation, the park has outdoor picnic areas, play fields, basketball court, play equipment, cross country skiing, lighted sledding hill, ice skating, snowmobile trail access, horseshoe areas and a fishing pond.

KINDERBERG PARK is located near Pilgrim and Donges Bay roads and is currently under development. This 23-acre park is entering its second phase of development. A parkway and grading are complete. This park will have a full range of services, including athletic fields and courts, skating, sledding, play area, garden area, picnic shelter and a pathway.

 

LITTLE LEAGUE PARK is located on Freistadt Road at Division Road. It is administered through a public/private cooperative relationship by the Germantown Little League.

 

SCHOEN LAUFEN PARK is an environmentally oriented 39-acre parcel located along the Menomonee River at the corner of Maple Road and Lilac Lane. The park provides residents and visitors access to the river and a wood area with nature trails. A picnic area and shelter are also available offering a serene view of the Menomonee River.

SPASSLAND PARK is a 20-acre recreation area located in southern Germantown and adjacent to County Line Elementary School and its 10-acres of recreation area. The park includes practice ball diamonds, courts for basketball and sand volleyball, modular play systems, picnic area and a developed fitness system along the looped asphalt trail that surrounds the park.

 

WEIDENBACH PARK is a 4-acre neighborhood park with a one-acre fishing pond and picnic facilities. Softball diamond, basketball court and modular play equipment are also provided.

 

UNNAMED PARK in 2000, the village of Germantown purchased 54-acres from the Boehlke family in the eastern part of the village for the development of a new community park.
