Sugar Beet History in Menomonee Falls: The Wisconsin Beet Sugar Factory was established west of Water Street in 1896. At peak production in the early 1900s, the sugar refinery employed 400 seasonal workers and produced up to 40 million pounds of sugar annually. The sugar refinery closed in 1932, but portions of the factory and a smoke stack stood on the site into the 1960s. Today, the former sugar factory office is occupied by the Knights of Columbus around the 1 mile mark on our course. The Brogan Cabin: The Brogan Cabin was built in 1842 out near St. James Church and was moved to Old Falls Village Historical Park 36 years ago. The wood shake roof is degrading and is in desperate need of being replaced. The Brogan Cabin was the location of the first Catholic Mass in Waukesha County. Proceeds from the Sugar Beet Stomp 5k will help save this Waukesha County treasure. Contact the Menomonee Falls Historical Society at (262) 250-3901 or mfhistory@yahoo.com for more information and for Beet Stomp 5k updates.
